Team Alton Leadership

Sensei Steve Wilson, PhD, is the Founder and Chief Instructor of Christian Karate. With over 42 years of martial arts experience and a 7th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate-do, he has trained with top Shotokan organizations worldwide and pioneered a distinctive martial arts methodology that integrates faith, discipline, and character. A published author, former pastor, certified instructor trainer, and skilled business owner, Sensei Steve leads Christian Karate with the desire to build lives and communities for Christ. He and his wife Jennifer co-founded Christian Karate in 1995 and continue to develop it together, now expanding from their new international headquarters in Alton, Illinois.

Sensei Jennifer Wilson, DM, is the Co-Founder and a Chief Instructor of Christian Karate. A 5th Degree Black Belt and certified fitness and nutrition expert, she leads the children’s program and created the KidFit Karate curriculum used worldwide. With over 30 years of ministry experience, a Doctorate of Ministry, and a compassionate, servant-hearted spirit, Sensei Jennifer has been instrumental in shaping Christian Karate from the beginning. Her passion is reaching the lost—especially children—through the powerful, life-changing ministry of Christian Karate.

Sensei Verlene Wilson is one of the original instructors of Christian Karate and has been sharing her love for teaching and Jesus for over 50 years. A 2nd Degree Black Belt and former national champion, she brings
energy, joy, and a deep sense of purpose to every class—especially when working with children.

Born and raised on a small ranch in Yakima, Washington, Verlene’s journey in ministry began early and has continued through decades of faithful service. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education from Covington Theological Seminary, a Master’s in Religious Education from Faith Bible Institute, and certification in Early Childhood Education through the U.S. Army.

Sensei Steve Wilson Sr. is a Founding Instructor of Christian Karate and serves as the Senior Chaplain for the association. A 2nd Degree Black Belt with a deep love for the outdoors and a lifelong heart for ministry, Steve has spent decades pointing others to truth, purpose, and the transforming power of God’s Word.

Born and raised on a cattle ranch in north central Washington, Steve’s early years taught him the value of hard work and faith.

Steve’s ministry experience spans over 52 years and includes receiving a Ph.D. from Covington Theological Seminary, serving as a prison chaplain, a pastor, and a U.S. Army Chaplain for 28 years—including a year of combat duty in Iraq, where he also taught
Christian Karate to soldiers.

Senpai Ellie Wilson is an Assistant Instructor at Christian Karate
